General meeting September 2022

Emanda Fretwell—Showing Off. 140 years of the Yankalilla Show

Yankalilla Uniting Church Hall

Emanda presented a timeline of the Show's history, from the first Show in 1882 through to the present, as we anticipate the 140th Show at the Yankalilla Showgrounds on Saturday 1 October 2022. The original Show Committee made some very good decisions including the purchase of the current site, and setting the location half way between Yankalilla and Normanville. Emanda entertained us with stories of the various competitions reflecting the occupations and skills of the era, such as the Children's Prize in 1900 awarded to the child who had gathered the largest number of rabbit skulls!

Yankalilla & District Historical Society supports the cultural, spiritual, ecological and economic regeneration of the Aboriginal peoples of this place assisted by the actions and power of individuals, organisations and governments.
