Chris Heartfield—The Beauty of Bonsai

District Council of Yankalilla

Former principal of Rapid Bay Primary School (2009-2014), Chris Heartfield discovered a new passion and hobby while working as an exchange teacher in Japan, where he became fascinated with bonsai. Bonsais plants are revered in Japan and become heirlooms, cared for and handed down to the next generation, each generation having the responsibility for their welfare. One of the oldest specimens, now in a Japanese museum, is about 500 years old, passed down from one emperor to another for 300 years.

Yankalilla & District Historical Society supports the cultural, spiritual, ecological and economic regeneration of the Aboriginal peoples of this place assisted by the actions and power of individuals, organisations and governments.
