General meeting November 2021

Des Gubbin—Bungala River

District Council of Yankalilla

Des Gubbin has spent about 50 years in the district and, in that time, has seen the Bungala River deteriorate. He has extensively researched old newspapers, maps and plans, some of which he presented to the YDHS meeting on 8 November. Des estimates there is only 10 per cent volume left in the estuary, and there are tidal inflows only during storms now. However, he is optimistic there is still time to rectify the problems, and he is happy to take society members on a tour to discuss solutions and plan remediation.

Yankalilla & District Historical Society supports the cultural, spiritual, ecological and economic regeneration of the Aboriginal peoples of this place assisted by the actions and power of individuals, organisations and governments.
